Jorge Werlang

Jorge is licensed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office as an Attorney to practice before the USPTO in Patent Cases. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Jorge gained significant experience and a strong track record in the business world. As the President and CEO of Summit, a global trading company in the energy sector, he directed global trading, risk management and all responsibilities associated with the position. With a global presence, the company had offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Besides working to develop innovations in the use of risk management tools, including hedging with commodity futures, Jorge and his team worked to commercially develop the supply of environmentally cleaner feedstocks to the industry.

Earlier in his career, Jorge was involved in developing one of the first online trading platforms for the commodities he traded, and participated in a pilot program to create and trade futures contracts based on these commodities. He was directly involved in the acquisition of one of his previous employers and worked with outside counsel in litigation involving different aspects of international trading, from contracts to employment, including a landmark case regarding payment under a letter of credit.

Jorge volunteered at Impact Broward’s Executive Service Corps, a team of executive level consultants that donate their knowledge and experience to support nonprofit organizations in Broward County as they face their most pressing challenges, helping them impact the lives of those who depend on their services every day. He also volunteered in the same quality at SOFIA, whose mission is to improve economic and social insights to empower people as they age.

Jorge was born and raised in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Porto Alegre. UFRGS, founded in 1934, is ranked #8 by US News 2022 Best Global Universities in Latin America. He also holds a Business Administration degree from UFRGS. Jorge graduated cum laude from Nova’s Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law.
